Fire alerts and situation reports, 1976-[ongoing].

The Fire Protection Division has responsibility for all aspects of the Forestry Commission's activity that relates to wildfire prevention, suppression, or prescribed burning (Annual Report, 1988-1989). As part of this responsibility, the division issues fire alerts and situation reports documenting weather conditions affecting the chance of fire, acres burned, geographic areas effected, and economic impact of the state. Each fire alert lists the starting date and time of the alert and the counties under alert. A second fire alert is issued to lift the alert. Fire situation reports are issued in conjunction with the fire alerts. These situation reports provide information on weather conditions, number of fires and acres burned, value of timber destroyed, economic impact, fatalities, and law enforcement efforts.
